Without knowing the word, I had been building channels all my life. Each one fed the next — and all of them converged on the March, which opened onto everything since. But they had a source.
What is new in this version. The first channel was not one I built. It was Quaker faith — entered as a boy at Scattergood Friends School, and still open fifty-seven years later. It is the spring this whole watershed runs from. It gave me the disposition to build channels and told me nothing whatever about where to build them.
